Statement from West Cork Tourism - 23:09 - 7th April 2009 SHAREHOLDERS UNANIMOUSLY BACK DEAL TO PURCHASE THE MS JULIA FOR RESUMPTION OF THE SWANSEA CORK FERRY SERVICE The basis for the deal to purchase the MS Julia from a Finnish bank for the resumption of the Swansea Cork ferry service has been met with huge positivity. The 300 shareholders gathered last night in Skibbereen to ratify the deal and form the co-operative.Speaking of the outcome, Conor Buckley, Chairman of West Cork Tourism and newly appointed Chairman of the co-operative expressed his delight saying "this is what we have been working towards and what we hoped the outcome would be from tonight. Shareholders recognised the great deal that has been negotiated and wholeheartedly gave it their backing. I am extremely proud of the region and of all those who have pledged their money and support to this great cause which holds the key for the future of the South West.” The deal will now be put to the courts in Finland to approve. If approved, the ship will operate under name "The Fastnet Line". It is hoped that the service will be running by June of this year.
